The Perks of Being a Wallflower was so much more than I imagined, and a lot darker than I thought it would be, I had no idea where this film would take me. It has so much heart and deserves to be seen by everyone.Lights Camera Reactionhttp://lightscamerareaction.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2696790060036702346.post-28823522007958282782013-04-22T16:59:05.434-07:002013-04-22T16:59:05.434-07:00Oh, I have to disagree about "Perks...",...Oh, I have to disagree about "Perks...", and I don't think it was a blindside, at all, there's constant warning signs that something is wrong with Charlie, there's something wrong with all the main characters, and they're not so-called normal teenagers, they all have a bunch of crap they have to deal with, or have had happen to them, and they all deal with it very differently. Especially when we're talking a film that gets compared to "Catcher..." and "The Bell Jar", the ending is quite believable and in some ways inevitable. Also, watch the film a second time, with that knowledge, and its puts the film, in another light, and with that new information, it makes it work better, the second time around. I couldn't disagree with you more on that point.

As to "Seven Psychopaths", I thought Colin Farrell, was perfectly fine in the role, and I thought the it wasn't so much a meta-commentary about violence, the film was really about writing and the process of creating, and was also, especially since Farrell's character is the same name as the writer/director, I think you have to look at the film, in light of McDonaugh's other work, like "In Bruges", his previously, which was also a comedy that had a lot of violence in it. I think it does work best, when you know the people and previous works involved, not only for the references, but also to be used to McDonaugh's style of writing, which is very distinctive. It's a bit of a blindside.

'Seven Psychopaths' didn't work for me because I didn't think Colin Farrell was well used, plus the meta-commentary about violence only to resort to using violence in the end also didn't jive with me.

But, I still want to see 'Detropia' and I will one of these days.Marlon Wallacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16105916958803806154noreply@blogger.com
